Dr. McNichol’s began his career in the entertainment business starting with concert booking and promotions, slowly graduating to artist management, record producer, radio promotion, music publisher and independent record label owner with distribution deals with such major USA record distributors such as Capitol Records, MCA Records, Columbia Records, Universal Records.
Not only is Dr. Marlin McNichol’s regarded favorably by the foremost executives of many of the US major record labels, his influence extends throughout the ranks of the music industry’s most successful promotional and marketing operatives. As a successful radio promotion executive, Dr. McNichol’s was retained by such industry pillars as Atlantic Records, Warner Bros Records, Elektra Records, GRC Records, Source/ MCA Records for his promotional skills at radio and marketing expertise at retail and distribution.
While at Atlantic Records Dr. McNichol’s was instrumental in breaking such R&B artist as Ray Charles, Roberta Flack, Donny Hathaway, Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, Brook Benton, RB Graves. McNichol’s was also in the Pop Mix at Atlantic Records, as regional marketing and radio promotion chief Dr. McNichol’s was a very important part in establishing at radio the early careers of the Bee Gees, Rolling Stones, Bad Company, Crosby Stills, Nash and Young, Blind Faith, Led Zeppelin, etc…
Not only did Sal Soul Records distribute McNichol’s Free Spirit Record Label, Dr. McNichol’s independent promotion service made a major contribution in establishing Salsoul Records brand as the dance club leader at the heat of the Disco era introducing such artist as The Salsoul Orchestra, First Choice, Double Exposure, Free Spirit Records Cream De CoCo and Loletta Holloway, etc.
